WHAT IS CAVITY WALL INSULATION AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Cavity wall insulation is an effective way to reduce heat loss through the external walls of a suitable home. A cavity wall is constructed with an inner and outer wall separated by a narrow gap. When that cavity is empty or inadequately insulated, heat can escape more quickly from the property.
During installation, small access holes are carefully drilled through the exterior wall or mortar joints. An approved insulation material, such as bonded insulation beads, is then injected into the cavity to create a consistent thermal barrier. Once the cavity has been filled, the access points are sealed to closely match the existing exterior finish.
Professionally installed cavity wall insulation can help retain warmth, reduce heating demand and create a more comfortable indoor environment. Installation can normally be completed with minimal disruption because the work is carried out from outside the property.
Not every home is suitable for cavity wall insulation. The wall construction, cavity width, exposure to wind-driven rain, existing insulation and any signs of damp or structural defects must be assessed before work begins. EcoTech Contracts Ireland provides professional cavity wall surveys and installation services throughout the Republic of Ireland.
Eligible homeowners may also be able to access SEAI cavity wall insulation grants, either for an individual improvement or as part of a complete home energy upgrade. Our team can explain the available options and the next steps for assessing your property.
